HashiCorp Team Picnic by the Pier for 24

When a team is staying at a hotel near the beach, the best picnic spot is the one they can walk to. For HashiCorp's team picnic in August 2023, we set up on the sand in front of Perry's Beach Cafe near Lifeguard Tower 12, the closest beach location for guests walking down from the Fairmont, and sent a walking map ahead of time.
The picnic ran from 1 to 3pm for 24 people, coordinated through HashiCorp's People team. We set up a large picnic with low tables and cushions, two coolers stocked with water and ice, and a spread of lawn games (cornhole, bocce and badminton) so people could mix between conversations and a bit of friendly competition.
A two-hour midday picnic is an easy add to an offsite agenda. There's no transportation to plan, the setup is ready when the group arrives, and everyone is back in the hotel lobby by mid-afternoon.
