A Little One's Birthday Beach Picnic with a Kids' Canopy Zone

For a young son's birthday in October 2024, one family wanted two spaces on the sand: a large picnic where the adults could sit together, and a separate shaded area for the kids. We set up a beach canopy zone with low chairs for the little ones on one side and the main picnic on the other.

The main picnic was on low tables with ground cushions, and the kids' area was set with low beach chairs under the canopy. Extra umbrellas, a shaded buffet for the food, four medium coolers stocked with still and sparkling water, and a stack of beach towels meant everyone had shade, a cold drink and somewhere to dry off.

Games filled out the afternoon: cornhole, ladder toss, Spikeball and bocce ball were all part of the setup. Splitting a family party into a grown-up table and a kids' corner is an easy way to keep a multi-generational group comfortable on the beach, and it gave the birthday celebration room to spread out.
